Cliff Terrace Hartlepool Headland

This great example of Victorian architecture had some of its houses requisitioned by the War Office during Word War 11 for use by army officers.Behind the nearby Heugh Gun Battery were the main barracks on Friarage Field.

Christian Mielson

Christian Mielson,who was the Mayor of Hartlepool in 1870 and 1871 lived at 15 Cliff Terrace.Danish by birth, Christian became a naturalised British Citizen. A timber merchant and a shipbuilder he was to become a Knight of the Danish Order of the Danebrog for services to his native country.

Redheugh War Memorial

Redheugh War Memorial was unveiled on 17th December 1921 by the Earl of Durham. The memorial records the past history of Hartlepool, and the four bronze plaques on the column are the arms of the Prince Bishops of Durham,the arms of the de Brus family,the Hartlepool Town Seal and the fourth shows the lighthouse and guns which relate to the Bombardment.The bronze winged figure, on the top of the column is the "Triumphant Youth" which symbolises the spiritual freedom and the regeneration that comes through pain and sacrifice.

Designed and sculptured by Philip Bennison A.R.C.C. we are awaiting a photograph as refurbishment of the gardens were currently being undertaken  7th February 2010.

The De Brus family founded the medieval town of Hartlepool in the first quarter of the 12th century
